'United in Jesus and celebrating our diversity'

A Message from the Chair of CTiL

I know that many of us have been praying for the situation in China and then Italy for some weeks now, as Christians we feel a concern for the whole of humanity, but it still felt distant and somewhat removed from our own lives. In the last few days, the Coronavirus COVID-19 crisis has become very immediate and has prompted a swift response, cancelling events, regular activities and even public worship.
Though this doesn’t mean that the Church is cancelled or closed because people are the Church, not a building or an event. It is more important than ever that Christians keep praying for one another, for those in government, and for our NHS.
It is important that we heed the advice we are given and take greater care in our social interactions, but we recognise the need both to support by phone and internet vulnerable older members of our congregations and communities, and to encourage younger people and their families as they cope with entertaining and educating children in the home.
To this end we will be collating and releasing a list of resources including podcasts and livestreams of local services and directing people to creative resources people can use in the home. Please follow the Churches Together in Leamington Facebook group as well as the Churches Together website (www.churchestogetherinleamington.org.uk/) where more information will be available shortly.
We must remember that believers in every age have faced times of crisis and distress, but found God to be a refuge and strength in those times of trial. Let us keep turning to him in worship and prayer as we negotiate the coming days.

God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

-Psalm 46:1-3 (NIV)
Yours in Christ,
